Post Surgical Unit Manager Job Opening in Alabama

Job Opening in a midsized hospital located North West Alabama, near Lexington, AL along the TN border, has a need for a Post Surgical Unit Manager to join their team.

Position Summary:

  • Accountable for 24 hour, day to day operations of the patient care unit(s) to include accountability for quality patient care, nursing staff performance and evaluation, budget development and management, and staff development.
  • Required to demonstrate the ability to assess patient’s age, specific needs and provide appropriate care according to the unit’s policies and procedures.
  • Promotes collaborative practice with other departments, physicians, and schools of nursing, and exhibits the ability to work with others, to find solutions to difficult technical or administrative problems.
    • 32 Beds, with dedicated rooms for specialized orthopedic procedures, such as joint replacements
    • Dedicated Physical Therapy and Mobility Exercise Center on the Unit, to facilitate our patients’ return to independent mobility
    • Surgical Care Focused, with very engaged physician teams
    • Close-knit group led by multiple RNs with >15 years post-surgical care experience
    • ~½ daily census is ortho surgery, we particularly focus on joint replacement
    • General Surgery is second largest portion of population, followed by Urologic
  • Surgery, and Neurosurgery
    • Target Staffing Ratio is 1:5 on Days and 1:6 on Nights
    • Patient Satisfaction Scores on steady increase, with initiatives in place to increase RN face time with patients.
    • 52 positions (full-time, part-time, prn) currently report to the Postsurgical Care Unit Manager

Position Requirements

Education:

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama RN License.
  • BSN required or commitment to BSN in progress.  (Exception: Nurse Managers hired prior to January 1996; RN with BS in health or business management experience)
  • BLS provider

Experience:

  • This position requires 4-6 years recent hospital experience in which an advanced level of leadership, interpersonal and problem solving skills have been demonstrated.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
