Manager of Birth Center Job Opening in Oregon

Job Opening for a Manager of Birth Center located on Oregon’s coast. The hospital’s inpatient and outpatient services include medical, surgical, pediatric, critical care, home health, outpatient and acute inpatient psychiatric, oncology, obstetrical, and other specialties.

 

150 beds

Sign on bonus with a 3 year commitment and relocation.

Education loan forgiveness if applicable ($3,000 per year for up to 4 years)

 

Job Summary:

  • Continually assesses process and effectiveness of overall patient care on the unit
  • Selects and supervises unit staff
  • Monitors and evaluates staff performance/competency on an ongoing basis and in collaboration with the employee:
  • Recognizes employee’s strengths
  • Coaches up
  • Identifies employee’s work-related needs and goals
  • Develops performance improvement plans, as needed
  • When necessary, is able to initiate and follow through with disciplinary processes
  • In collaboration with unit staff and Clinical & Professional Development staff, identifies and develops plans to address staff learning/competency improvement needs
  • Acts as a clinical resource for staff
  • Develops unit-specific policies, procedures, and clinical competencies using evidence-based standards of care
  • Prepares and monitors unit budget(s)/productivity. Identifies cost-effective systems needed to support the business of the department, taking into account business trends, resource availability, and changes in patient mix
  • Interacts with patients, seeks staff input, and analyzes unit patient satisfaction data to identify areas for improvement
  • Ensures unit performance conforms with hospital-wide quality and patient safety goals
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates unit-specific quality improvement indicators, in collaboration with Quality Division
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with unit co-workers, physicians, vendors, other departments and members of the healthcare team
  • Facilitates participation of unit staff in evaluation of new products and equipment, as appropriate/requested
  • Collaborates with Director and other managers to assess overall staffing patterns, need for RN contract services
  • Investigates and addresses unit-specific physician complaints, seeks assistance from Director and/or Chief Nursing Officer when indicated
  • Responds appropriately to infant security alarm
  • Must be able to take call on all shifts, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis; must be able to arrive and be prepared for assumption of duties within 30 minute travel time to hospital

 

Equipment utilized in the unit/department:

  • Soarian for Postpartum infants.
  • Centricity Fetal Monitoring.
  • Transitioning to EPIC and fetal monitoring software is yet to be determined.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Able to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
  • Strong nursing knowledge and skills in clinical area(s) of responsibility
  • Exercises good judgment, demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
  • Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently
  • Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location

L&D Core Requirements:

  • Six months of L&D experience preferred

 

POSTPARTUM/GYN Core Requirements:

  • Six months of medical-surgical or L&D experience preferred
  • Perinatal experience preferred
  • Must be willing to cross-train to a second core area

 

NURSERY Core Requirements:

  • Six months experience in NICU or must complete preceptorship at regional Level 3 NICU after hire
  • Five years experience in acute care hospital in past 10 years
  • Two years managerial or leadership experience in past 5 years

 

Required licensures and certifications/registrations:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing or related field or currently working to obtain
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred
  • Specialty certification in area of responsibility preferred• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider card or obtain within 6 months of hire
  • L&D Core: Complete hospital approved fetal monitoring within 6 months of L&D core eligibility and every 2 years thereafter
  • Nursery Core: STABLE or hospital approved neonatal stabilization program within 6 months of Nursery Core eligibility and renewal as indicated
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support card or obtain within 6 months of hire
  • National certification in lactation or perinatal area preferred

 

Shift or schedule Requirements:

  • Salaried.
  • Monday – Friday. Varied shifts, some weekends.

 

Floating to other units/departments:

  • MOMS Program

 

Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/department:

  • 15 beds total, 7 labor and delivery. 2 Triage beds.
  • 650-700 births a year

 

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only):

  • AWOHNN staffing guidelines

 

Dress Code:

  • Professional or scrubs.
