Job Opening in a midsized hospital located in Southern Virginia near the North Carolina border, for an experienced Hospital Market Chief Medical Officer to join their team. The Market CMO will be overseeing 2 hospitals, all midsized facilities, in both Virginia and North Carolina.
First Hospital:
240+ bed hospital and provides the most comprehensive source of healthcare in the River Region of Virginia and North Carolina. For more than 120 years, this hospital has been part of the community and has an active medical staff of approximately 165 members and employs over 1,300 associates. The hospital provides over 25 medical specialties and 14 surgical services to the community. The hospital has the largest, leading-edge surgical capacity with advanced capabilities (including 13 state-of-the art surgical suites), open-heart surgeries and other complicated procedures in the area, including those usually found only at large teaching hospitals.
Second Hospital:
230+ bed, full service, acute-care community hospital. Recent capital improvements include a new $2.7 million MRI, a $1.1 million 16-slice CT scanner and a $1.2 million ambulatory surgery center. The hospital recently completed an expansive renovation project designed to separate inpatient and outpatient services, improve the flow of people in the hospital, and provide more convenient and efficient services to patients. The state-of-the-art Oncology Center, affiliated with Duke University, and the Breast Care Center are recent additions, as well as a Hyperbaric/Wound Care Center and Sleep Lab. Physical Rehabilitation, the Cancer Center, Breast Care Center and ER each have dedicated entrances and the Elective Procedure Services, Laboratory, Radiology, and Cardiopulmonary/Neurophysiology have also been recently renovated.
The CMO will be based at the larger hospital. Located in south-central Virginia on the North Carolina border, the city is a welcoming community with access to a wide variety of cultural events and recreational opportunities.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports to the Market President with additional direct reporting responsibilities to the second hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Group Leadership and the CMO of the company. The primary responsibility of the CMO is to build and leverage collaborative relationships to lead clinical transformation efforts to improve patient care, quality and safety, and overall clinical effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, the CMO plays a key role in building and maintaining relationships between hospital management and the medical staff, as well as supporting the recruitment of new physicians. The CMO will focus in the areas of quality improvement, clinical transformation, managing and developing physicians, and partnering with executive leadership.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree required.
- Completion of residency training in a recognized specialty and board certification in the specialty of training.
- Additional management degree (MBA, MHA, MMM, MPH) or equivalent experience is also preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years with previous practice experience and experience managing, developing, and mentoring physicians.
- Prior CMO or physician leadership experience is required
