Job opening for a Clinical Nurse Specialist Pediatrics located in New Jersey.
Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a Master’s prepared Registered Nurse. Through advanced educational & clinical experience, the CNS is an expert in a specialized area in nursing including General pediatrics and Pediatrics Intensive Care. The CNS serves a role model for excellence in nurse knowledge and clinical practice. The CNS role is organized around four major functions: clinical practitioner/consultant, leadership, educator and researcher.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
- Consultant/Role Model – Practitioner
Implements components of direct and indirect care to patients requiring advanced clinical expertise of sophisticated problem solving
- Leadership
Chairs and/or participates in hospital wide and interdepartmental committees as assigned. Utilizes collected performance improvement data to communicate opportunities to improve outcomes. Complies with regulatory requirements. Supports the delivery of care through evidence-based assessment and management. Functions as a resource person to the nursing staff as requested and identified
- Education Plans
Promotes professional development of staff. Plans, develops, promotes and conducts nursing educational programs and in-service activities, continuing education programs related to pediatrics, pediatric emergencies, and adolescents. Review of policy and procedures. Determined unit competencies.
- Quality and Research
Initiates nursing practice changes based on the latest evidence and research. Plans educational activities based on quality outcomes, participation in the performance improvement process, and needs of staff. Identifies clinical nursing problems relevant for review and participates in the systematic quality improvement projects of selected clinical problems and studies including pediatrics and pediatric emergencies.
- Unit Specific
Experienced in the care of the general pediatric patient, critical pediatric patient, and pediatric neuro patient, including proficiency in documentation. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the care of the pediatric patient, including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring and other life sustaining equipment.
Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
- 5 years of Pediatric experience required
Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred:
- 2 years of Nurse Educator / CNS experience preferred
- Doctorate in Nursing
Required Certification/Licensing:
- Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license is required
- Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/CPR certification is required
- Active American Heart Association (AHA) PALS certification is required
- Masters of Science Degree in Nursing
- National Certification in Pediatrics via the ANCC required within two years
Certification/Licensing Preferred:
Active American Heart Association (AHA) American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) NRP certification is preferred
