Job Opening for a Director -Emergency Department and Observation located in Maryland.

Directs and oversees all activities of the Patient Care Services Division for designated areas, in order to ensure quality patient care. Participates in the formulation, revision, interpretation and administration of the vision, philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Patient Care Services Division at the hospital. Collaborates with the Vice President of Patient Care Services toward the accomplishment of the objectives of the division, the Hospital, and other facilities. Works under the direct supervision and direction of the Vice President Nursing/CNO
The ER-7 at the Hospital is a level III ER currently seeing over 60,000 patients per year and has 61 beds for urgent care, fast-track and psychiatric patients. There are 150 FTE’s in the ER. This role will directly supervise one Manager and two Assistant Nurse Managers. The Observation Area is a 20 bed unit with 60 FTE’s, a 5:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, and permanent charge nurses. In addition, the unit has two assistant nurse managers who report to the nurse manager.
The ER-7 department treats major and minor illnesses, typically related to cardiac and behavioral health. Additionally, ER-7 staff may provide care for orthopedic injuries or minor trauma. ER-7 has a rapid care area as well, designated for minor illnesses. Staff members of ER-7 are outgoing and positive, and must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, and be able to effectively implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms. Assumes 24-hour accountability for the coordination of resources to ensure quality service to all customers, reflecting the mission, vision, and philosophy of the Hospital and the Department of Nursing.
- Seasoned professional knowledge; equivalent to a Master’s degree; knowledge in more than one discipline; Nursing, Business, or related field.
- Master’s degree strongly preferred. Candidates in progress of attaining degree may be considered.
- 7+ years’ experience.
- Previous Director level experience required.
- Licensure in state of Maryland in practice field; CPR Health Care Provider course.
- Certification in administration preferred.
