NP, Gynecology/Oncology job, MD

The position focus will be working with the Gyn/Onc service line providing patient care for those who are receiving Chemotherapy in an Outpatient setting.

This is a Monday thru Friday 8 hour position.


Under limited supervision, performs comprehensive medical and nursing evaluation to diagnose and treat patients. Functions as an Advanced Practice Nurse.


  • Documents all patient encounters appropriately and accurately after performing an accurate and comprehensive history and physical appropriate to the patient problem
  • Identifies abnormal findings on physical assessment and diagnostic tests
  • Provides orders for medical procedures and/or treatments in a timely manner to enhance the flow of patient care, including laboratory, cardiology, and radiology studies, as well as other indicated therapies in a cost effective manner
  • Prescribes drugs, including controlled substances, as appropriate
  • Refers patients to appropriate licensed physicians or other health care providers as necessary. Rounds on assigned patients
  • Works in a variety of clinical settings within the inpatient, ED and out-patient areas
  • Collaborates with the healthcare to provide education and counseling to patients and family members
  • Provides patient education relevant to the learning needs of the participants and goals of the organization
  • Instructs and counsels patient and/or family concerning healthcare matters, such as use of medications, diet instruction, disease prevention, and management etc.
  • Support professional development through participation in Hospital Orientation; Nursing and Medical Staff Grand Rounds; Staff Meetings, and community education
  • Maintains communication pertinent to the patient’s care with the collaborating physician, patients’ primary & specialty providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Develops a collaborative working relationship with the attending physicians. Serves as a patient/family advocate within his/her scope of practice
  • Ensures clear and concise patient status documentation to promote accurate communication to the collaborating physician, patients’ primary & specialty providers, and other members of the healthcare team
  • Performs efficiently and calmly in emergency situations and documents events accurately
  • Demonstrates knowledge, flexibility, and skill when communicating with individuals and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Facilitates patient care needs across continuum of care
  • Serves as advisor, resource, preceptor, and leader for other members of the patient care team, nursing staff, and students
  • Maintains compliance with all regulations regarding provider and institutional reimbursement. Supports best practice by updating policies & procedures and representing the department on various hospital and departmental committees as requested
  • Identifies conflict and utilizes appropriate negotiation and communication skills to reach resolution. Consults with staff on patient care problems, standards of practice, and identification and resolution of barriers to providing excellent care
  • Demonstrates professional responsibility in the Nurse Practitioner role.
  • Displays an understanding and awareness of, and perform all duties in accordance with, Department’s and Hospital’s Mission and Vision statements
  • Displays a commitment to the value of teamwork by building strong relationships with patients, families, co-workers and physicians, and by being cooperative and collaborative in the performance of duties to promote a unified and spirited workplace Attends departmental meetings and required educational classes per policy Collaborates with other team members to participate in performance improvement programs; participates as team member or takes a leadership role in setting and implementing unit goal


  • Master’s degree in an advanced practice nurse practitioner
  • Pain management experience preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Cerner, Healthstream
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Maryland Registered Nurse License BLS/ACLS
  • Acute Care NP certification
  • Excellent communication skills
