Clinical Educator Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Educator in the Institute for Nursing Excellence will ensure development and coordination of programs, structures, and processes that promote nursing and clinical education and training at Medical Center as well as programming for professional development and mastery. The Clinical Nurse Educator is an expert in Ambulatory Care and is expected to remain current and competent in the content area (which may span several practices.)
Develops and teaches centralized content area curriculum and related educational and training materials, which will be used in classes (traditional, e-learning, blended, and other innovative approaches), on-boarding assessments, training programs, residency tracks, simulation activities, continuing education and certification classes, mastery sessions and conferences. Evaluates all classes, instructors, and materials and makes edits, revisions and updates in content, format and educational approach as appropriate.
Coaches and mentors individuals and unit-based groups participating in clinical education and training activities and provides oversight to decentralized education and training activities in content area.
Partners with nursing leaders and staff in content area in an on-going fashion to assist in staff development, help identify education and training gaps, and to help determine whether centralized or de-centralized resources are needed. In addition, the Clinical Nurse Educator will conduct an annual needs assessment and evaluation of educational effectiveness within her/his content area.
Partners with Clinical Nurse Researchers and other nurse leaders to disseminate practice changes and provides training on demand as needed to meet or exceed appropriate professional organization or regulatory standards.
Develops, co-creates, and/or reviews educational tools for patients and families within content area.
Participates in committees, work groups and/or projects related to clinical education, training and staff development.
Serves in professional organizations and contributes to the literature and professional community through posters, presentations and publications.
Increases the visibility of Medical Center Ambulatory Services at local, regional, national and international levels.
Responsible for the written document for Magnet submission regarding clinical education, training and staff development in content area, as well as patient and family education within content area. Ensures internal and external websites providing clinical education, training and staff development information in content area are updated on a quarterly basis.
The flexibility to orient and work at all Medical Center locations is required.
Requires a Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program
A minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in content area required (Ambulatory experience)
Current CA RN licensure required
Current American Heart Association CPR certification
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, listening, written, organizational, analytical, and presentation skills
Experience in teaching and/or training required
Needed computer skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio applications
The flexibility to orient and work at all Medical Center locations
