Hospice Program Director job opening located in Asheville, North Carolina.

Healthcare organization serving western North Carolina and offering a full continuum of post-acute care. Located in Asheville, North Carolina, they provide compassionate post-acute care, including rehabilitation, home health, adult care, hospice and palliative care. They also offer a full acute care rehabilitation hospital. With more than 1,200 colleagues and 400 volunteers, they are dedicated to helping people of western North Carolina live full and productive lives, despite illness, injury, disability or issues related to aging. 

Job Summary:

The Program Director provides the leadership to effectively grow the program by ensuring clinical excellence, operating efficiency and financial strength. This includes leadership in developing a strong clinical team and partnership with the Medical Director and medical staff to ensure clinical excellence and operational performance of the program. The Program Director is also responsible for designing, developing and implementing a strategic plan to ensure the success of the program’s clinical, financial and overall operating performance and successful growth. The Program Director directs, administers and coordinates the overall operations, including the goals and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer.

Essential Accountabilities:

    *  Provide day-to-day leadership within the organization, including advice, guidance, direction and authorization to achieve the clinical and financial goals and objectives of the program.

    *  Supervises and supports the clinical team managers and ensures they are prepared to assume administrator duties in the program director’s absence.

    *  Design, develop, and implement an annual strategic plan that focuses on clinical excellence, financial performance and market and business development in collaboration with the senior leadership team and manages and directs the program toward the goals of the plan. Includes effective measures that raise community awareness of services offered by the program.

    *  Create and maintain proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures and systems to meet and exceed the clinical and financial goals of the organization included in the strategic plan.

    *  Oversee the adequacy and soundness of the program’s financial performance, including reviews of operating results, comparing them to established objectives and taking steps to ensure appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.

    *  Actively participates in the senior leadership and governing board meetings.

    *  Motivate and lead a high-performance team; attract and recruit and retain required members of the team not currently in place and provide mentoring as needed.

    *  Cultivate positive relationships with and maintain an environment of collaboration and cooperation at all levels of the organization, including the Medical Staff and the executive team.

    *  Positively and professionally represents the program with internal and external customers, other shareholders, and the public.

    *  Ensure that all activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulation, Joint Commission standards, the program’s compliance plan, and all laws governing healthcare operations.

    *  Supports the program’s Quality Improvement Plan and measures effectiveness on that plan to demonstrate clinical excellence.

    *  Ensures the implementation of the program’s policies and patients’ rights and responsibilities.

    *  Responsible for establishing and implementing a safe working environment that meets all licensure, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

    *  Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operations of the program, including, but not limited to, measures and effectiveness of achieving operational performance as defined in the strategic plan.

    *  Contributes to professional development of staff, students, and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

Qualifications

    *  Required Education: Master’s degree in nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy; or Master’s degree in business or healthcare administration with a Bachelors in Nursing or other clinical field. Those new to the role must become actively enrolled in a master’s program within 6 months and complete within 3 years.

    *  Required License:Must have and maintain current licensure with the applicable North Carolina Board (RN Strongly preferred, PT, OT, SLP). BLS Healthcare Provider

    *  Required Experience: Five years of progressive leadership. Computer skills include word processing, spreadsheets, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and Intranet software, and email.

    *  Preferred Experience: Six to ten years of progressive leadership experience, previous management experience.

Additional Information:

    *  Registered Nurses strongly preferred. They will consider PT, SLP or OT if they have a strong hospice background. 

    *  The facility is interested in a candidate who is trustworthy and can provide stability. A team player, someone who can focus on team engagement with staff and providers, as well as the community. 

    *  6 Director Reports: Admin(s), Clinical Team Manager(s), and Bereavement Counselor(s)
