Candidates can be a Social Worker or a Counselor and the certifications can be either LPC or LSW with a Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling.
It is outpatient only.

LOCATION/SECTION: Outpatient
POSITION TITLE: Primary Therapist Dependent
POSITION SUMMARY:
Takes primary responsibility for managing his/her patient’s course of treatment.
Works with different patient populations following the general directions of the clinical supervisor to deliver psychotherapy to assigned patients.
Understands and utilizes established theoretical framework, as set forth by the various mental health disciplines, to conceptualize and solve mental health/substance abuse problems.
Uses his/her higher academic training as a basis to learn a wide variety of established mental health/substance abuse techniques for adults, adolescents, SMD/SED, and geriatric patients and their families.
MAJOR & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Screens and completes diagnostic assessments under supervision.
Makes recommendations to the treatment team about patient’s treatment needs based on screening and diagnostic assessment.
Employs a variety of treatment modalities including individual, group, and family therapy for target population.
Psycho therapeutic techniques and modalities are appropriately matched for clinical needs.
Develops the treatment plan with his/her own patients by assessing their strengths and weaknesses, defining their mental health/substance abuse problems, and setting specific goals and objectives to be accomplished in the course of treatment.
Meets with supervisor and with the treatment team to discuss his/her own patient’s treatment process.
Handles problematic and/or unusual events in the course of treatment, relying upon the guidance of more experienced colleagues when an unusual situation arises.
Works with patient’s families and social networks to accomplish the goals of treatment.
Consults with other community caregivers to strengthen and coordinate social intervention programming.
Collaborates with patient, family, and multidisciplinary team members to develop an appropriate discharge plan.
Charts patient’s progress in their clinical record and completes all paperwork necessary by our policy for professional, administrative, financial and evaluative purposes of monitoring clinical care and of assuring efficient and effective agency operations.
Participates in quality improvement activities in which the quality of clinical care for the entire agency is monitored by reviewing the clinical charts, reviewing the criteria for admission/continued stay/discharge, performing patient care audits, and investigating adverse occurrences in treatment.
Reads relevant professional literature, attends conferences, seminars, workshops, and in service training as required to remain current on best treatment protocols and techniques.
Represents the company to the community caregivers, citizens, and community leaders, explaining MHS policies, mental health/substance abuse philosophy.
Keeps in strictest confidence all that he/she might learn about a patient, including the fact that a person is a mental health client at the facility or of our sister agencies.
Takes special care to protect patients’ rights to confidentiality.
Performs any and all other job-related tasks requested by his/her supervisor.
**This assignment may have responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse issues that involve a portion of one’s caseload.
